Mysore has been proposed to be renamed in English by the state government to Mysuru or Mysooru. Mysore is and has been the capital of the Wodeyars. The city is known for its palaces and proximity to several other places of interest like Srirangapatna, Sivasamudram Falls, and Krishna Raja Sagara Dam. The city is spread across an area of 128 square kilometres. Along with sandalwood products and crafts, Mysore is also famous for its celebration of the ten day Navaratri (Dasara) festival held every year.

Palace Of Interest:

Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple
The Sri Ranganthaswamy temple in Srirangapatna, in the Indian state of Karnataka, is a temple dedicated to the Hindu God Ranganatha, a manifestation of Vishnu. The town of Srirangapatna, which derives its name from the temple, is located on an island in the river Kaveri. The temple is one of a set of three major temples that are built on three different islands on the Kaveri and are dedicated to lord Ranganatha

Sivasamudram Falls
The Shivasamudram Falls is on the Kaveri River after the river has winded its way through the rocks and ravines of the Deccan Plateau and drops off to form waterfalls. The island town of Shivanasamudra divides the river into twin waterfalls. This creates the fourth largest island in the rivers course. A group of ancient temples are located here and there likely was a village.

Krishna Raja Sagara
Krishna Raja Sagara is the name of both a lake and the dam that causes it. For information about the settlement near the dam and reservoir, see Krishnarajasagara. The dam is across Kaveri River, in Mandya District near Mysore in Karnataka state. There is an ornamental garden attached to the dam, called Brindavan gardens, making it a popular tourist place and picnic location.

The Brindavan Gardens
The Brindavan Garden is a show garden that has a beautiful botanical park, full of exciting fountains, as well as boat rides beneath the dam. Diwans of Mysore planned and built the gardens in connection with the construction of the dam. Display items include a musical fountain. Various biological research departments are housed here. There is a guest house for tourists.
